Styling for Virtual Events by Divine Events

With this year's COVID-19 upheaval in the event industry and the continued uncertainty around hosting large-scale in-person events, the world needed a solution. Hence the on-set of Virtual Events, through Webcasting or Live-streaming. This broadcasting of an event to the masses requires specific technology to control the video and foster interaction by the viewers watching.

This year's  Event Summit will be a virtual event using the Twitch platform.

It is evident that Virtual Events are here to stay!

Webcasting Stage Sets for Business

For businesses that want to continue to communicate with their customers, internal teams or their industry as a whole, a virtual event via a webcast is a great solution.

We have all taken our fair share of personal Zoom, Webex or Teams meetings this year, so we all know that being presentable to camera is an important factor when using these mediums.

In much the same way, when webcasting for business, we have to be conscious of being impactful and engaging through the camera. This means everything that the camera captures, should be packaged well and be in tune with the business/brand you represent.

Styling for a Webcast

The one aspect that many people and companies overlook when webcasting, is styling. In this instance styled backdrops, furniture and accessories for your webcast. Engaging your online audience with a visual medium is key in garnering and keeping their interest going!

The key focus of styling is enhancing and presenting better on camera.

Tips for a successful Webcast

  • Location

Choose the location for your Virtual event carefully. Whether it be an indoors or outdoors, what matters to guests viewing the webcast, is what is seen via the camera. You can have grand high ceilings and intricate wall coverings, but a viewer will not see this detail, nor be moved by its grandeur. It is key to view the space at the time of the intended webcast to see how the natural light adds to the space along with venue lighting (if indoor).

  • Lighting

Probably the most important aspect of your webcast will be lighting. A lot of times, what matters most is natural lighting i.e. the more of it you can have the better. Most of us have not been inside TV studios or Movie sets, so to successfully present your webcast, invest in lighting and if you can, time the event to maximise natural light.

  • Furniture

The Location and its lighting then determine what styling elements you include. You want to determine what colour works best with your theme and complements the venue/outdoor space aesthetic.

Because you are styling for the camera, styling elements can definitely be included in the background and the foreground as well. The key here is to create elements that stand out, especially to catch the eye of your online guests. In saying this they need to not overshadow you or overpower the other décor accents but to subtly blend in.

Remember to also test the camera angles and lighting with the styling, to see how it looks down the camera.Your AV company can work in tandem with your Stylist to enhance this.
